Turning artifacts into music

Have you ever wondered what music sounded like years before anyone had the ability to record it?

Craig Russell, Cal Poly music history professor, has spent much of his professional career resurrecting music from California’s missions. He is either contacted or shows up on his own to look through mission’s old archives on the search for old sheet music.

Many of California’s missions have been gutted of their original artifacts, but much of it has been found, piece by piece. Russell has helped to put much of it back together so that it can be heard.
