Bringing together the SLO community on Mother’s Day

Mass is held every Sunday at Mission SLO de Tolosa. It is held both in English and Spanish, attracting many SLO residents every week.

Sunday, May 12, there was a free Mother’s Day concert held in the mission’s courtyard during the hours mass is held and afterwards. Families were encouraged to bring a picnic, chairs, and blankets to relax on the lawn while Cal Poly’s jazz band performed. Barrelhouse Brewing Co. was selling beer, and Madonna Inn provided their famous cake for free at the event. Both companies are SLO natives.

Iyla Dizechi, Cal Poly student, was there to watch her friend perform in the jazz band. She said, “This event seems like a good representation of the SLO community that I don’t see often as a student. People who live here and students all together in the same place is nice, it reminds me of the Farmer’s Market.”

The mission provided a place to connect all of these different SLO organizations, residents, and students, creating a place where the whole community could get together.
